Search and Rescue

We had an incredible end to our Autumn term last year, working on a ‘Vote 100’ badge which celebrates the achievements of the Suffragettes and Suffragists 100 years ago in getting women the vote. We learnt some Aikido moves, similar to those used by the Suffragists, with some of our youngest Brownies having great joy in throwing a large 6ft tall man to the ground! As part of this badge, we also held an Equalitea Tea Party and invited some special ladies from our community. This was an incredible opportunity for the everyone to learn something new from a different generation and we raised an incredible £53.94 towards our chosen charity, Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue.

Our other highlight from last term was having a visit from Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue. This charity is a non-government funded specialist team of volunteers. They are called upon by Police 24 hours a day, 366 days a year in the search for vulnerable missing people in our local area including children, the elderly and those who feel suicidal. As part of our training, the team helped us to find and perform first aid on a missing person (a mannequin) who we found on the village playing field. We were so inspired that this term we are running a sponsored event where we aim to keep a CPR mannequin ‘alive’ for one hour. Hopefully by doing this we will be able to raise lots more money to help this incredible charity.
